Excellent article that explains the difference between astronomical and astrological placement of the Sun.

Sun-entry dates to Zodiac constellations in 2016, using boundaries for constellations set by International Astronomical Union in 1930s.

Very interesting! I don’t know why I assumed there was only one way to look at the zodiac, when there are so many ways to look at everything else.

Yes, there are numerous “zodiacs” which is very confusing, even to astrologers. The most common is the “Tropical Zodiac” which is based on the relationship between the Earth and Sun. In other words, the equinoxes and solstices drive the location which, over time, has deviated from the location of the constellations by the same name. The “Sidereal Zodiac” which is used exclusively by Vedic astrologers (and which has variations as well) is closer to where the constellations are located and differs from the Tropical Zodiac by about 23 degrees.

Goodness, this is even more complicated than I imagined.

Nothing is simple in either astronomy or astrology.

That makes sense, since many things are much more complicated than one initially expects.
